NAPLES MUSIC CLUB 41st ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION
RULES & REGULATIONS SOLO EVENTS 2011
SENIOR DIVISION GRADES 9 – 12
WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Students grades 9 thru 12 in Collier County, Bonita Springs and Estero.
CATEGORIES: Brass, Woodwinds, Piano, Organ, Percussion, Strings (includes Classical Guitar and Harp) and Voice. You may enter one category only, excluding the Chamber Exhibition.
WHAT DO YOU PERFORM: Play from MEMORY 2 Pieces of contrasting styles from 2 time periods (Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Contemporary). Must be Solo Literature, NO Simplifications. TOTAL TIME of the 2 pieces must not exceed 15 (fifteen) minutes. ONE of your two pieces must be accompanied with the exception of these categories: Piano,Organ, Percussion, Harp and Classical Guitar.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING COMPETITION DAY: ONE ORIGINAL SCORE plus ONE EVALUATION COPY with all MEASURES NUMBERED. Failure to provide an original score will result in disqualification.
WHAT DO YOU WEAR: Appropriate attire ~ GIRLS: Knee length or longer skirts, dresses, blouse or a trouser ensemble, appropriate shoes. BOYS: Shirts with ties, long trousers – optional suit, appropriate shoes. This is a competition, look nice!
DEADLINE: Completed & Signed application must be postmarked on or before Tuesday, March 1, 2011.
FEE: $25.00 entrance fee must accompany your application with a check payable to NAPLES MUSIC CLUB. Need based waivers may be requested by contacting Jan Grundeman at 239-353-2216.
WHERE & WHEN IS THE COMPETITION: SATURDAY, APRIL 9, 2011 at GOLDEN GATE HIGH SCHOOL, 2925 Magnolia Pond Dr., Naples 34116. You will be contacted by e-mail of your audition time no later than Friday, March 18, 2011.
AWARDS: Awards are given at the discretion of the judges, all decisions are final. Winners names will be posted at the end of each category on the day of competition. Monetary amounts will be announced at the Winners’ Recital.
WINNERS’ RECITAL: First Place and selected winners will perform SATURDAY, APRIL 30, 2011, First United Methodist Church, 388 First Ave. S., Naples, 34102 at 2:00 pm. All competitors and teachers will be notified by e-mail by APRIL 16th regarding who is to perform. Winners should be present to receive their awards.

USE OF YOUR SCHOLARSHIP AWARD AND HOW TO CLAIM IT – 2011
The Naples Music Club offers Scholarship Awards to be used towards expenses to attend summer music camp, study with private teachers, instrument upgrade, or for college studies.
Even though this student will be graduating, the Club especially encourages attendance at summer music camp, believing it to be a highly motivational factor in a student’s musical development initiating a unique expansion of a student’s musical experience, knowledge, ability and outlook.
After the recital, all requests for prize monies will be honored by filling out the “Scholarship Voucher” presented at the Winners’ Recital, and submitting it to the Treasurer as soon as possible as directed.
The Treasurer of the Naples Music Club will make the funds payable to the music camp or the appropriate party.

TURIEL AWARD – 2011 FOR 12TH GRADE ONLY
Established in memory of Daniel E. Turiel (1951-1987)
The purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage recipients in the serious study of music. The Award Committee will favor candidates who intend to pursue a career in music or who might consider a serious music avocation.
Given to Seniors, the award is generally used for college tuition, purchase of an instrument, or other appropriate use. Summer Music Camp after graduation is also encouraged.
Candidates for the Award will be selected from the TOP SENIOR WINNERS of the Naples Music Club Scholarship Competition by the Turiel Award Committee.
**Eligible candidates will be GIVEN a Turiel Award application AT THE COMPETITION AFTER THE WINNERS ARE POSTED (SAT. April 9th)
**Award selection will be based on the scholarship audition April 9, 2011, the April 15th NMC Bayshore Recital performance, the personal interview, essay, general scholastic achievements and honors and awards and achievements in music.
The award for the year 2011 will be up to $2,000.00.
**The Turiel Award will be presented at the end of the April 15th Bayshore Recital. The winner will additionally be announced at the 41st Annual Scholarship Winners’ Recital on Saturday, April 30, 2011, 2:00 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 388 First Ave South (corner of 3rd and 1st Ave S.), Naples, 34102.
