Doug has been a passionate music lover most of his adult life and, while not an instrumentalist, has sung with many church choirs and choruses, such as the Foundry Methodist Choir (Washington, DC) the Wayne Presbyterian Choir (Wayne, PA) the Alexandria Choral Society (Alexandria, VA), and the Berkshire Choral Festival (Sheffield, MA).
Doug’s professional background has been in the computer field, specializing in programming languages and database systems. He has used Microsoft Access to develop systems used by the Collier County Department of Transportation and a number of small businesses in the Washington, DC and Naples areas. His longtime involvement with the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, PA lead him to develop a system called Fortissimo, designed to meet the needs of a performing arts organization to manage mailing lists, contributions, and ticket sales, which was employed by Choir staff for over 10 years. Fortissimo includes a sophisticated query capability, the ability to produce a variety of management reports, and to export data in a variety of formats. Since coming to Naples in 2000, Fortissimo has been adapted to meet the needs of Classic Chamber Concerts and the Naples Music Club.
Doug is also an Honorary Member of the Board of Directors of Classic Chamber Concerts and the Board of Directors of the Naples Opera Society. He is currently a faculty member of Hodges University in Naples, where he teaches computer-related courses both in the degree programs and for the non-credit Center for Lifelong Learning.
